Making Middle Street
As part of the ‘Fifty Years of Middle Street’ project, staff, volunteers and Centre users were encouraged to share memories and stories of the Centre through drop-in art and craft sessions. These sessions were facilitated by Thortify, specialists in creative self-care.
This piece weaves memories of Middle Street into a depiction of the Centre’s beautiful garden.
Several people spoke of an activity they had participated in a few years ago, where they had built two clouds to represent positive and negative thoughts, the negative cloud was then shredded as a way to process these thoughts. Based on this idea, Middle Street members used papier mache to create two storm clouds, for the group to decorate in a later session and reflect this key memory.
This piece is a vibrant depiction of the various activities and groups that thrive at MSRC including photography, woodworking and music groups. The importance of the central café area to the Centre gives it a prominent position at the top of the box.
